Recorded Programming for Grassroots Artists
Our "NuFinds" edition of programming are live recorded shows that invites grassroots musicians to perform for a recording intended for distribution.
NuFinds at The Hyers
The Strange Fruit Foundation will be hosting a residency at the Hyers to showcase the hidden gems of Guilford County's musical talent. Over the course of five weeks, there will be a series of auditions, where we will choose artists to be accepted for a live recording to be distributed across platforms as well as booking for our annual Strange Fruit Music Festival in April!
The Hyers will be transformed into a stage where judges and the community will decide who is eligible to be on this live recorded album. Everyone involved including the onlookers in the crowd, have multiple opportunities to experience a part of this production.
The NuFinds instrumental sound is provided by hip-hop band The NuBeing Collective, which is made up of drums, keyboard, vocals, DJ, emcee, trumpet, bass, and guitar. The winner(s) of the competition will have the opportunity to perform their original music with a full band.
Previous recordings have included local rapper Young Dirt, regional cellist Brianna Tam, and The Polk Duo.
The Strange Fruit Foundation is excited to be using the Hyers for this program, which will allow them to work with students under the age of 21. Community opportunities include set design, videography, sound engineering, production, and more.
This is a great opportunity for local musicians to showcase their talents and get exposure to a wider audience. The Strange Fruit Foundation is doing important work by supporting young artists and providing them with a platform to share their music. I encourage everyone to come out and support this event!
